Local Needs - Apostate Warning!!
by hopetofade inhad a very interesting local needs part last nite - warning against apostate activity in our area, as well as the dangers of the internet.
the elder giving the talk discussed how he googled "watchtower" and a whole boatload of sites came up, such as silent lambs, etc.
"we need to stay away from these.

And of course, I was waiting for him to make direct eye contact iwth me andsay "we know YOU have been visiting those sites!!"
Yeah, I can remember doing that. It was hell. Especially with my mother sitting there. I was waiting for the 'evil eye' from the speaker, as if to say "We Know".
Then I'd go home and read threads on here. Funny. I've learned a h*** of a lot more here about the witnesses then I did at the, uh, those things, oh yeah, meetings.
peace

Hey Hope!
I have been in the fading process as well. Haven't been to a, what do ya call those things, meeting, in a while. I never realized just how much I could get done during the day when I didn't have that hanging over me head.
Stay strong and welcome to this forum.

Isn't caffeine a drug?
by Fatfreek induring the early days of the wt tobacco ban i can recall the six month (or so) leeway period in which baptized ones who were still using tobacco could quit those nasty habits.
i also recall one of those elderly brothers at that time who always reeked of smoke on his breath and his clothes.
i actually felt sorry for this smoker who had done this since childhood.

Wish I had my most recent cd rom available.
I know that there was an article within the last 5 years or so regarding caffieine being a drug. It didn't outright ban it, but it did suggest it was a drug.

long time sister told me yesterday that end would be here within 7 years!!
by PaNiCAtTaCk ini went to the meeting yesterday because the out of town speaker and his wife are good friends of my wife and i. after the meeting we got invited to someones house who was feeding the speaker because they know that we are friends and because ive missed lots of meetings in the last two months and my wife and i need a good love bombing!
well during our lunch i was complaining about my having braces at 30 and how stupid i looked with them and the 83 year old sisters house we were at told me that i wasted my money on them because the end would be here with 7 years anyway.
i asked her "do you really think so?

hm, out of curiosity...is there a talk floating around the k.hall's alluding to that?
there has been the threads re: the 120 years. (forgive my math or lack thereof)
So, is this in relation to that? Haven't been to a kh in a while, so I'm out of the loop. Any rumours?

Mothers Doubts: Latest Update
by diamondblue1974 infurther to my previous thread i thought i would share an update with you on the situation with my mother... .
essentially my mother has been a jw for 30 years and we had a long conversation which involved me running through my reasons for no longer going to the meetings; she seemed quite receptive and agreed for me to send the documents and articles relating to the un.
well that very evening she went to see her elders without actually seeing the documents and asked about the un saga....apparently the elder told her that 'this was all sorted out ages ago and yes this has come from the apostates' 'the society has never been a member of the un and that this just a hoax designed to stumble people....' hmmn.

Db,
You're probably right to let it go at this point. You calmly explained the situation to her, you made available the information. It was (is) her decision to make.
You know I hate to say this.... But it reminds of what we used to get told about "planting a seed of doubt". Sounds like you did get to her. It's in her heart and in her mind. You mentioned her ill health, but, look you never know. Never say never and always hold out hope.
thoughts are with ya
